When it comes to Ibanez, everyone’s first reaction must be that most of them are Nissan electric guitar brands, but if you really want to trace back to the roots, Ibanez is actually not a brand founded by a Japanese.In 1870, a classical guitar maker named Salvador Ibanez opened his first workshop in Valencia, Spain, and his classical guitars were revered and sold all over Europe and introduced to Japan by the musical instrument company in Nagoya, Japan. Salvador Ibanez died in 1920, after which his two sons took over the company.

During the Spanish Civil War, Valencia fought several fierce battles, one of which resulted in the destruction of Salvador Ibanez’s workshop and the death of his two sons. The supply of Ibanez guitars was never sustainable, so Hoshino Gaki bought the rights to use the brand name from the surviving members of the family in Spain. Beginning in 1957, Hoshino Musical Instruments began to use the Ibanez brand directly for guitars.
